A Jamaican singer who first made a name for herself during reggae’s rocksteady era of the 1960s, Dawn Penn gave the reggae world a pleasant surprise when she returned to the charts in the early 1990s with a dancehall-influenced remake of her signature song “You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No).” The vocalist was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, where in the late 1960s, she recorded the original version of that song for Clement “Sir Coxone” Dodd’s Studio One label. At the time, Dodd was among reggae’s heavyweights, and Penn’s “You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)” became a major hit in Jamaica. Penn made some more recordings for Studio One, including “Blue Yes Blue” (which was produced by the famous Prince Buster) and a reggae version of Lulu’s “To Sir With Love.”

This one’s gonna be HUGE. At Summer Sundae they queued in their hundreds to get in – and now we’re bringing it to The Charlotte.

As you enter you’re given a set of double channel wireless headphones. In the dance room are two DJ’s playing simultaneously – and until you put your headphones on you can’t hear either of them. Get dancing – and if you don’t like what’s playing on one channel then simply flick a switch to tune in to the other DJ playing something completely different. Take your ‘phones off and you can chat to your mates – or listen to several hundred people cheering tracks or singing along to their favourite anthems.

We’ve re-created the line-up that caused such a sensation at Summer Sundae – top Midlands club night Kontakt versus the man Summer Sundae described as “Everyone’s favourite party DJ”, Tony B. That’s Dubstep, Jungle, Reggae & Techno in one channel and in the other a heady mix of genres ranging from indie to 60’s classics and everything in between.

We’re expecting this one to sell out so get there early.

The first event is for all drum and bass djs! WIN A SET AT FILTERED!

THe premise is simple, submit a 15 minute mix to us (either drop it in to HUB or email a copy to filtereddnb@googlemail.com) and come on down on Friday night!  You’ll be alloted a slot on the decks and this will be your chance to impress the crowd and the panel of judges!
The winners will be picked by the judges with help from the crowd (whoever gets the best response wins!) and will win a slot at Decembers Filtered night!

So it really is that simple… Mix, mail, HUB on Friday… Simples!
